Medical Assistant
I studied medical assisting at Concord Career College in Memphis, TN. It was a nine months program. I graduated with a 3.6 gpa but never became certified. Most businesses hire medical assistants only if they’re certified but some hire no matter if you’re certified or not. I learned the skills of phlebotomy, ECG, triage, medical lab, and injections; I was trained on urinary catheters during my externship. During my externship, I worked at the Med Clinic in downtown Memphis. My externship began working with doctors specializing in dermatology, post-trauma, and urology. I was then transferred to a different section of the clinic to work with casts. My final weeks of the externship, I was working in all sections, along with ent and dental. Triaging patients and taking x-rays in the dental office. I learned a lot during my studies and externship. Finding a job in this field has always been my dream. It’s just so hard to due to businesses only wanting RN’s or LPN’s.
